Autumn Term

Topic: Weather Watchers

This term we will be looking closely at weather patterns and cycles that we witness here in the UK. All areas of learning will be linked in some way to this, and we will be covering Geography, Science, Art, DT, R.E and PSHE.

Times Tables

Children should be learning their times tables as all children are expected to know each multiplication table for 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s by heart by the time the end of Year 2. We kindly ask that all children practise their times tables regularly at home by signing in to TTRS using their Numbots logins.

Reading

We also ask that all children read regularly. We suggest a minimum of 15 minutes per night. Reading and discussing books each night will help your children to develop the higher order reading skills of comprehension and will help to move their reading forward. Children need to read their phonics book 3 times before it can be changed. The purpose of this is to build fluency with reading, and seeing the same words repeatedly adds them to long term memory. You also have access to the Oxford Owl ebook library using your child’s Oxford Owl login; here you can access books appropriate to your child’s reading ability and the whole reading library for you to share as a family for pleasure.

PE

Children will engage in PE sessions twice weekly. Some of these sessions will take place in our outdoor environment. Please ensure PE kits are in school every day; children will sometimes engage in additional sport related activities outside of their usual PE slots.
